When the Heart is gone
Ian Harvey
Made from a Taraire trunk I found in the bush on our farm south of Kaikohe. It’s an unusual wood which splits easily when it’s green, and hard as nails once dry. For some reason the heartwood decays before the outer layer. It is prone to fungus distorting it the growth of its sap wood, which gives this piece so much character.
